Hunger, Health, and Aging: A Queens Food Insecurity Forum

Panelists address hunger among borough’s seniors (Times Ledger) - April 17, 2017

The Aging in New York Fund is partnering with Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults, the NYC Department for the Aging, State Society on Aging, United Neighborhood Houses of New York and York College - CUNY to host “Hunger, Health, and Aging: A Queens Food Insecurity Forum."

Food insecurity is when a person experiences reduced quality, variety, or desirability of food in their diet. This event will feature representatives from community-based organizations that have an interest in reducing food insecurity locally, particularly among Queens older adults.  Featured panelists include:

Nick Freudenberg - Director, CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute

Joel Berg - Chief Executive Officer, Hunger Free America

Jenique Jones - Director of Program Operations, City Harvest

Amy Richards - Coordinator, Partnership for a Healthier Queens, Make the Road NY

Barbara Turk - Director of Food Policy, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services

Light refreshments will be provided. City and Queens-based organizations will be available to answer questions about food access services.
